Osteopathy in Australia is a government registered, allied health profession. Osteopaths focus on improving the function of the neuro-musculoskeletal system (bones, muscles, nerves and connective tissues)  to optimise health and well-being.

Joanna is highly qualified and experienced in the osteopathic assessment and treatment of babies and infants.

She can assist with the following assessments:

  • Gross motor development (milestones)
  • Primitive reflexes
  • Tongue function and it’s relation to sucking skills
  • Biomechanics of the jaw and mouth

She can provide osteopathic treatment which may be of benefit in the management of the following musculoskeletal conditions:

  • Torticollis (head tilt)
  • Plagiocephaly (misshapen head)
  • Preferential head turn
  • Latching and jaw opening difficulties
  • Muscle tension from a difficult birth/delivery

Lactation Consulting

IBCLC lactation consultants are recognised around the world as the experts in lactation care. They provide evidence-based knowledge to assist mothers to establish and maintain breastfeeding. As professionals, they are charged with promoting, protecting and supporting breastfeeding.

Joanna can help with a broad range of lactation consulting services, including:

  • Teaching a new mum how to hold and position her baby to breastfeed
  • Assess the suck, swallow and breathing of an infant
  • Assess for tongue function and determine any evidence of restriction (tongue tie)
  • Pre and post-frenectomy breastfeeding support
  • Help increase or decrease milk supply
  • Help manage nipple and breast pain, feeding difficulties and breast infections
  • Help getting started with nipple shields and also weaning from them
  • Teach how to use a supplemental nursing system (SNS)
  • Advice on pumping and expressing
